Artist Statement
Brooke Nedved
As an artist, I love experimenting with different mediums and drawing inspiration from all kinds of materials. My work is deeply rooted in emotions and often reflects personal experiences that have shaped who I am. Art has always been a way for me to process and express the layers of my inner world.
Some of my most meaningful pieces were created during times of loss and change, as I was going through the griefing process of my grandmother’s passing or the challenges of navigating complex relationships. I find immense inspiration in artists like Frida Kahlo and Vincent Van Gogh, whose ability to transform their personal struggles into deeply affecting and enduring works speaks to the connection between art and resilience.
Art-making, for me, is an ongoing journey of growth and discovery. I see every moment and experience as a potential spark for creativity, and I strive to channel these inspirations into thoughtful, meaningful work. Currently, I am engaging with repurposed materials to create a tree sculpture—a piece that reflects themes of sustainability and transformation. Through this project, I aim to represent the evolving dynamics of romantic relationships, highlighting the intimacy, connection, and growth inherent in those bonds.

IDENTITY - 2019

This series of photographs was created for my art show booth. Each image serves as a deeply personal reflection on the theme of identity, exploring the challenges I encountered throughout high school while navigating the journey of self-discovery, grief, and interpersonal relationships. These works are not just a visual expression but a vulnerable exploration of the emotional and transformative experiences that shaped me into the person I am today. Through this series, I aimed to capture my experiences and portray them to my audience in a visually creative way.
