Act of Unity Backboard

Custom-built basketball backboard for the Cunninghams' wedding ceremony — a permanent piece installed at their home after the day.

The Cunninghams wanted a ceremony object tied to basketball, but not a prop that disappeared after the wedding. The backboard became their act of unity: a playful, specific ritual piece made with enough care to live beyond the day.

I fabricated the board, painted the face, and hand-lettered the surface around a regulation-style rim. After the ceremony, the piece moved home with them, turning a wedding gesture into something they could actually install and use.

The face was lettered to feel ceremonial from a distance while still reading as a usable backboard.

The basketball motif gave the ceremony a visual anchor that was personal to the couple instead of borrowed from a standard wedding catalog.

A companion welcome sign carried the same wedding language into the entrance moment, pairing large-format lettering with a built-in floral pocket and a personalized name plate for Brianna & Connor.
